Oct 19, 2005

They are among the few DJ’s who are mixing well-known house, hiphop, classic rock, 80’s classics, punk and electro tunes. The show is spanning 40 years of popular music. In one track they are mixing The Clash's "London Calling", Khia's "My Neck My Back", MU and Salt-N-Pepa. It's really hard to imagine, but it works!! The Princess is also live mcing and her partner is doing the live scratching.

BIG RESPECT TO KOOL LADY BLUE

Oct 18, 2005
Kool Lady Blue is one of the most important entrepreneur, promoter and manager in the hiphop history. She introduced hiphop to the world south of 125th St. and the South Bronx, at her legendary venues Negril and Wheels Of Steel at the Roxy. THE "ROXY ROLLER RINK" ON 18TH ST. was transformed into one if the greatest hiphop clubs of all times, with legends like the Rock Steady, Double Trouble, Cold Crush 4, Fantastic 5, Buzy Bee, Starskie and many more. In 1982 she became the manager of the Rock Steady Crew (who were founded in 1977) at a time when the crew`s popularity escalated. She booked them on the Roxy Tour "The NYC Rap Tour", together with Afrika Bambaataa, Phase 2,The Double Dutch Girls, Grand Mixer DST and the infinity Rappers, Fab 5 Freddy, Rammellzee to London and Paris. It was the first tour of this kind mixing DJ's, MC`s and graffiti artists.

Now Kool Lady Blue is still in the biz, she`s booking Afrika Bambaataa & Grandmaster Flash exclusively! She keeps them busy traveling the world. Perhaps some of you have seen them on the Germany tour this year.

NIKKI S LEE AND HER PHOTOGRAPHIC PROJECTS

Oct 14, 2005
The korean artist Nikki S. Lee observes over a period particular subcultures and ethnic groups. She introduces herself as an artist in the groups, adopts their style and attitude through dress, gesture and posture and approaches the group in her new guise. She`s spending several weeks participating in the group`s routine activities and social events, while a member of the group photographs her and the group with an ordinary automatic snapshot-camera.
Her projects include The Punk Project (1997), The Lesbian Project (1997), Young Japanese (East Village) Project (1997), The Tourist Project (1997), The Hispanic Project (1998), The Yuppie Project (1998), The Ohio Project (1999), The Swingers Project (1999), The Seniors Project (1999), The Exotic Dancers Project (2000), The Schoolgirls Project (2000), The Skateboarders Project (2000), The Hip Hop Project (2001), and Part (2003).
For sure I like most the HipHop Project.....See some more photographs in the Leslie Tonkonow Artworks + Projects Gallery.

WE B*GIRLZ - OUT NOW!

Oct 6, 2005
The first handbook "We B*Girlz" featuring b-girls all over the world is out now! And their site is also up!

"Featuring pioneering B-Girlz like Rokafella from the Bronx, who now dances professionally, and Asia-One from L.A., who organized and promoted the B-Boy Summit for ten years, We B*Girlz also showcases the gutsy girls who dare to dance with all-boy crews such as Vendetta from Atlanta's Burn Unit and Valentine-whose Paris crew, Fantastik Armada, came in second in the 2004 Battle of the Year, the largest international competition in Germany. Presenting girls of all ages and walks of life, We B*Girlz spotlights twelve-year-old Wonder Woman from France, a serious contender at last year's IBE; Krazee Grandma, a beloved sixty-five-year-old B-Girl from Sweden who still spins on her head and travels around Europe to dance competitions; B-Girl Mom Honey Rockwell, whose three-year-old daughter is known as "The Annialator"; and B-Girl & Boy couple Chyna and Sake who organize an annual couple's battle called "Lover's Rock" in San Diego."(from We*BGirlz Site)
We B*Girlz is a must-have, look inside and buy it here. Check out their site with a huge gallery of pics by Martha Cooper. Some b-girls you might know!
