Anattitude Magazine | About |
WHAT IS ANATTITUDE?Anattitude magazine - founded in 2005 by Jeannette Petri - is still the first and only existing international Hip Hop magazine on print, to present the female side of Hip Hop culture. Intended as an antidote to the one-sided, boring, even nonexistent representation of contemporary female Hip Hop culture in the media, Anattitude presents strong independent women from around the Hip Hop world with a special focus on the variety of gender styles. Anattitude presents knowledge and style with attitude! Anattitude has an international and diverse readership across Europe, the US and Canada - half of which is actually male. Anattitude is for people who are interested in keeping a Hip Hop culture alive. It is also for people who want to be surprised and inspired with fresh points of view, for people interested in design and photography. Lack of information was the reason to build up this big magazine project. Anattitude appears once a year with a special theme like “Paris Hip Hop” or “Old School Hip Hop.“ Anattitude features international contributors from Britain to Bulgaria. JEANNETTE PETRI studied video and photography at the Academy of Art & Design in Offenbach, Germany taking the classes of Lewis Baltz and Heiner Blum. Petri loves to work on the No Man’s Land between documentary and staged photography. This includes pure non-fictional work but she also loves to let the people play themselves in an arranged environment. Her videos “china shipping” (2000), “rock it” (2005) etc. were shown on international film festivals from Oberhausen to Minneapolis. Her photographic work was presented in numerous exhibitions from Paris to Berlin. While studying Fine Arts in Germany, she started her Hip Hop career as Jee-Nice spinning the wheels of steel with only female spitters in 2000. She brought every female MC rapping on a 12 inch she could find around the globe and made the people dance. One main focus of her work is the presentation of the forgotten history of female Hip Hop. She started her history research in 2003 with the reader “Here’s a little story that must be told” as well as her Women in Hip Hop timeline of the same title. In 2005, Petri started publishing Anattitude Magazine - the first and only existing international Hip Hop magazine on print, to present the female side of Hip Hop culture. Intended as an antidote to the one-sided, boring, even nonexistent representation of contemporary female Hip Hop culture in the media, Anattitude presents strong independent women from around the Hip Hop world with a special focus on the variety of gender styles. Running her own magazine gives her the freedom to combine good photography with a great graphic design and dope content. Her work is supported by several scholarships like the Hessisches Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kunst, Kunststiftung Nordrhein-Westfalen and Hessische Kulturstiftung to name a few. Petri lived in Brussels, Paris and London, but is now back in Frankfurt. Many thanx again for all the support, also from all contributors and readers! |
